Vladimir and Suzdal Tour Plan

DAY 1
In the early morning, meet ExploRussia’s guide at the train station Kurskaya. From Moscow, head to Vladimir (approximately 2 hours by the fast Russian train, 180 km), one of the medieval capitals of Russia. Firstly, visit one of its most prominent landmarks, the Golden Gates. Built in the 12th century used to serve as the main entrance to the city. Afterward visit Water Tower, which now is a museum of Vladimir’s history. Also visit nice observation point on the last floor from where you can see the whole city.
Right after, go to the Cathedral Square (Sobornaya Ploshad’). Visit the magnificent Assumption Cathedral with its shiny golden onion domes and with ancient fresques of Andrey Rublyov who is Russian genius artist of Russian Orthodox icons. The Cathedral is located at the highest point of the riverbank. It also offers great views over the Klyazma River and the old part of Vladimir. Next to it there is Dmitriev Cathedral with outstanding exterior reminding beautiful shawl. Finally, visit Church of the Intercession on the Nerl (Tserkov Pokrova na Nerli) in Bogolyubovo. It is one of the oldest and the most beautiful Orthodox churches attributed to the Vladimir-Suzdal building school, situated in the suburbs of Vladimir.
In the evening, head to your guest house located in Suzdal.
DAY 2
Today you will visit Suzdal, regarded by many as the “jewel” of Moscow’s Golden Ring. The city dates back to the beginning of the 11th century and seems it hasn’t changed for ages. You can still see chickens and cows walking around the Suzdal Kremlin. Firstly, visit Monastery of Saint Euthymius (Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery) – built in the 14th century, a beautiful building, still in an excellent condition, which lies on the high bank of the Kamenka river.
Afterwards go to the Pokrovsky Convent (Pokrovsky Monastery), a significant monument in the history of old Slav architecture. During the sightseeing tour, pass by the Torgovye Ryady, an old traditional market. Finally, visit the most remarkable and the oldest part of Suzdal – Suzdal Kremlin (named a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the stunning Cathedral of the Nativity. In the afternoon, take a tour to the Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life, which is an open air museum with several buildings back from the 18th-19th centuries.
In the evening travel back to Moscow (approximately 2 hours by the fast Russian train, 180 km).
