10 Dec Tailor-made tour St.Petersburg and Karelia, review by Barnard family from the Netherlands
The wonderful Barnard family visited St.Petersburg and Karelia and made the most of this trip!
Spending a day in St.Petersburg with our local guide Anna, walking 15 km, got into all possible yards and hidden streets, tried black ice-cream and their yellow raincoats was a symbol of their mood, so no rain could spoil the day when you spend it with such an enthusiastic family. And the cherry on top was a home-cooking dinner at our local guide Kate and her family, with the Russian salad olivie, enjoying that all appetizers from parents garden self-grown and self-picked.
Then a whole week in Karelia with local guide Polina including not only must-see places such as Kivach and Solovki island, Valaam, Kinerma village but also some very non-forgettable things like trekking with husky and Russian banya, that are very Russian one. And of course Northern Light! Have you ever seen it? Barnard family was a lucky one!
Below is their review on TripAdvisor about the trip:
“We had a wonderful trip starting in Saint Petersburg, then a week in Karelia and on Solovetsky and finally another few days in Saint Petersburg. Our guides were all very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. We spent most time with Polina who shared many little details of Karelian life with us and related exceptionally with our two daughters as well. She really was more of a personal friend than a professional guide.
All travel was arranged by ExploRussia, most of it with our own drivers, but also a night train. We twice visited Russian families at home, we did culture, history, nature and even some sports.
A picture of the trip will be our Christmas card for friends this year. And we hope one day to come back to explore more.”
